J & S Italian Villa Hot Springs, AR

Had a late night meal at the oh so famous J & S Italian Villa in Hot Springs, AR the other night. I was quite impressed. The service was really good and the food quite delicious. Seems this old established restaurant use to be in another location on toward Lake Hamilton but, it burned down a while back. Glad they have reopened in a strip mall a little closer to the Oaklawn track and downtown area. Pictured below are Garlic Bread, Escargot, Lobster Ravioli and the REAL flowers in the ladies room. I really don't know why we chose this pricey restaurant after another big loss (somebody has to pay for that brand new casino) at the track but, glad we did! Pics say it all...

Southern Fried Whole Okra...

Down in the South we grow a lotta okra. Okra season is right upon us and I have been so hankering for some freshly fried okra. In fact, I don't want the cut up kind, I want something more grand! I want some whole fried okra pods! Had some in a salad a few years ago and the thought of that Southern Fried Whole Okra on top of some fresh salad greens with some freshly cut tomatoes and onions and  topped with some homemade Ranch dressing...well what can I say. Dreams do come true...enjoy!

How to make Southern Fried Whole Okra...
Ingredients:
Oil and Iron Skillet for frying
3 large eggs
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup corn meal
1 ts salt
1/2 ts pepper
Batch of freshly picked, rinsed, and cleaned okra (leave tops on or cut off )
Directions:
1.  Hear oil in skillet to 375 degrees
2.  Whisk eggs and buttermilk in medium bowl
3.  Mix flour, meal, salt, pepper in another bowl
4.  Drop okra in egg mixture then in dry mixture till fully coated
5.  Fry until golden brown or about 3-4 minutes, drain on paper towel, serve in your fave salad fixins, and drizzle some homemade Ranch dressing all over!

Trout Fishin' On The White River...

We love the trout fishing on the White River near Norfork, Arkansas. A nice weekend getaway where you can sit back in your flat bottom boat, with baited gear in hand, and float downstream, trolling for those Rainbows...or maybe a Brown trout just might jump on your hook if you really get lucky.  Relaxing, even if the trout happen to be smarter than you that day.

Ari's Little Italy in Glenwood, Arkansas

A quick trip up Interstate 40 West, take the second Arkadelphia exit, right toward Amity and right to Glenwood and on the right to a strip mall with Ari's Little Italy on the corner...can't and should not miss it! Wonderful authentic Italian food at super low prices! We had a little bit of everything. Must top your meal off with the Lemon Cake...to Di for!
